Hi all!

Here’s a bit of inspiration for you! These suggestions will add depth to your child’s love of planes ✈️ .

One of the best ways to help your homeschooler gain knowledge is by following their interests. Because they are already interested. Currently my son is on a plane kick and I’ve been able to build on it!

Here’s how.

My Preschoolers Interest of the Week: PLANES!

How to create an Interest-Led Learning lesson Plan!

Ari watching an airplane!

Books!

I requested lots of books from our local library: Picture, Fiction and Non-Fiction books! We read or flip through them together and “go with the flow”.  Ari has many questions and we are able to find the answers.

 2. Field Trip!

We spent our morning at a small local airport that has a PLAYGROUND!! How to do Interest Led Learning. Air Plane theme.

Ari had a great time and was able to watch planes: land, take off and refuel! Obviously, from the look on his face, he was ecstatic!

History

We watch videos about the Wright Brothers:

New Vocabulary:

  • Aviation
  • Inventor
  • Acceleration
  • Deceleration

Spanish (Foreign Language):

We learned Spanish words that relate to airplanes!

  • Airplane: Avion
  • Airport: Aeropuerta
  • Sky: Cielo
  • Clouds: Nubes
  • Up: Arriba
  • Down: Abajo

Art

Art without guidance. I allow Ari to draw and paint the way HE see’s things

  • Airplane drawings & paintings

Handicrafts

  • Paper Airplanes!

Science

Remember, this is a very loose lesson plan, meant only to inspire. You can easily customize this to meet your families needs!

That wraps it up! I hope this helps!

Happy Plane Watching!
XOXO

Hello there! How are ya? Hot?!

It’s mid June, but it feels like it’s been summer for a few months here in Atlanta!

Summer solstice is upon us. Wednesday June 21, 2017 will be the longest day of the year and the official start of summa, summa, summa, TIME!

My preschooler (4), my almost toddler (gosh she’s growing so quickly) and I, make a point to leave the house every single day. Funny that they call us HOMEschoolers and stay-at-HOME-moms. Home is not where you want to be stuck with little humans all day, every day!

We frequent parks, playgrounds, the zoo, splash-pads, and many many nature walks.

Oh how I wish, leaving the house was an effortless pursuit. BUT it is not; because, I have these crazy intentions of keeping my crew happy, fed, safe, healthy, clean… well, let’s just say ALIVE — Oh, I also enjoy maintaining my sanity.

This takes preparation!

After four years and many failed outings (because I forgot that one thing, that could have made my life so much easier) I’m finally getting the hang of it!

To pay it forward, I’ve complied this list! Big kid, toddler and/or baby necessities I wish I had my first summer as a mom. Read More »

My son plays all. day. long. He’s only 4, what else would he be doing?

As a homeschool mom I’m ALWAYS wondering if I’m falling short. Is my little student learning enough? Will he fall behind his peers? Should I be providing more structure for my preschooler?

Worksheets, formal curriculum, should our homeschool look like traditional school?

Maybe you have some of those same concerns?

To answer my questions– NO. NO. NO! I know that I have nothing to worry about, I stand by the reasons my husband and I chose to homeschool. We want our children to have an education that is centered around who they are, and there interests. I also understand that there’s no such thing as being behind or ahead of peers. Children are individuals. No child should be forced-fed knowledge they aren’t ready for; simply because of the month and year they graced us with their presence.

Thankfully, I’m reminded just how important play truly is. My son is getting exactly what he needs, exactly the way he was created to — through play and everyday interactions.

If you worry also, (and what caring parent doesn’t from time to time) I believe these quotes will ease your mind. Read More »

I believe a child truly learns in the absence of text books. Discoveries are made when we allow our children to get their tiny hands dirty; To make something truly memorable we, as their learning facilitators must bring the topics to life, & make it real for our little ones.

The school year is quickly approaching and I am really excited to be starting this new homeschooling journey with my son. These extra years I will have with him will be absolutely priceless!

I’ve been using the last few months to plan, research and test drive different learning styles and approaches, as well as different homeschooling styles.
